Meet Your Vet: Dr. Cuica

Dr. Felipe Cuica, DVM received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in January 2013 from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics—at the time, the only veterinary school in Mexico accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the oldest veterinary school in the Western Hemisphere. His alma mater is located in the southwest corner of Mexico City, an area known for its rich culture, deep history, and remarkable beauty.

Originally from Mexico City, Dr. Cuica has strong roots in Texas. His family is from the Rio Grande Valley, and he was raised between his hometown and Sullivan City, a small community where he later established himself close to family, relatives, and lifelong friends. Texas has always felt like home to him.

In June of 2014, a career opportunity led Dr. Cuica to the Midwest. While professionally rewarding, the experience made him realize just how much he missed Texas—particularly its warmth, lifestyle, and sense of community. In 2019, after enduring several harsh winters, he made the decision to return to the great state of Texas, where he continues to serve his community with dedication and compassion.

Outside of work, Dr. Cuica enjoys spending time with his family and pets, grilling, camping, boating, and riding his Harley-Davidson with his veteran friends. He is the proud pet parent of five dogs: Molly, a rescued 15-year-old Shih Tzu; two Miniature Schnauzers, Elsa (5) and Captain (3); Papi, a 2-year-old English Bulldog; and Tank, a 9-month-old mixed German Shorthaired Pointer.

His love for animals—both professionally and personally—drives his commitment to providing exceptional, compassionate veterinary care every day.
